Decorating Our Candles

All of our candles are made dye-free, unless you request a color.

Our candle dyes are formulated with eco-friendly ingredients, made in the USA. They have a pleasant, mild scent and do not contain hazardous solvents or additives such as naphtha or naphthalene. They do not contain any hazardous fumes or air pollutants. Our dyes are never tested on animals and NO INGREDIENTS are on the California Prop 65 list (CA PROP 65) of cancer causing ingredients. Although our dyes are eco-friendly and vegetable based, all dyes still contain some synthetic ingredients and would not qualify as a 100% natural candle. 100% Natural candles contain essential oils and are dye free (white).

We have a collection of seashells that we use to decorate our candles that have been sustainably harvested. Our supplier follows strict policy under US and International laws. They also follow all rules and regulations of the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) International Agreement. Most of their seashells are harvested as a food source, and the seashell itself is a by-product or waste item.

We hand paint every jar lid with craft paints that do not have any harmful vapors for us to breathe during production. Our paints do not contain any hazardous materials such as lead or heavy metals, and are safe for children to use. They are water-based, certified non-toxic and comply with the protocol of ASTM D-4236, a federal regulatory standard. Our paints are made in the USA and bear the symbols AP, ACMI and ASTM.

Our candle warning labels on the bottom of the jars, tops of the tarts, and bottom of the votives are custom made just for us, and are made of tree-free fibers and printed with soy-based ink. The tree-free fibers consist of all natural unbleached sugar cane, “bagasse,” bamboo and cotton linters and a water-based adhesive. We are searching for a clear corn label for the jar fronts. The labels on our votive boxes are also made of treeless stock. We use Rob at planitgreenprinting.com for our tree-free labels. We use natural ribbons made of hemp, jute, sisal and raffia. Our hemp cord is organic, chemical free and fair trade. It is made in Romania by Ecolution.

We’ve found our bead supplier at last! We were so happy to find Happy Mango Beads, a fair trade company that personally imports all of their beads and interacts with people of many different cultures, in relatively poor countries. They have been involved in bettering the living conditions and lifestyles of many families in developing countries. They pay a fair price for the beads, and purchase from many different coops, vendors and craftspeople, providing a market which allows them to house, feed and clothe their families, something they may not have otherwise been able to do. The "Boca de Negro" seeds are from the rainforests of Equador and the sea shells are from the Phillipines. The sea shell beads are all sustainably harvested under US and International law and CITES International Agreement (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). We personally hand tie all of the beads to make the candle decorations. When your candle is finished you'll have a nice bracelet to wear.
